Afghan Refugee Assistance Committee

Afghan Refugee Outreach is a partnered ministry of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Glenwood, MD and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Airy, MD.  Together the people from these two churches along with other volunteers, are providing life sustaining help for many of the Afghan refugees moving to this area.

Volunteers are needed!

  • Finding jobs for refugees

  • Recruiting other volunteers

  • Organizing activities

  • Providing money and gift cards

  • Assisting refugees through bureaucratic processes

  • Driving people to appointments and staying with them if they need help

  • Collecting household goods

  • Temporarily providing storage for donated furniture and household goods

  • Pro bono legal assistance

  • Grant writing,

  • Temporary housing assistance

The St. Paul’s campus includes a vacant three-bedroom ranch house which is available for refugee housing if needed.

There is also a volunteer need for

  • Refurbishing this house

  • Providing household goods

  • Communicating this refugee ministry to the greater community

  • Fund raising
